Imagine sitting in a cell, in a foreign country, being accused of a crime and not understanding why. The language is unfamiliar; there is no one to help. You do not know your rights. Do you have any rights? Or imagine being robbed, mugged or attacked. Do foreigners have rights? If so, what are they? What can be done? How can this be avoided?

For the second year in a row, the University of La Verne debate team is the top team in the Western Hemisphere, by placing in Worlds, an international competition.

Members from the University of La Verne debate team traveled to Great Britain Nov. 10-19 to compete in intervarsity competitions hosted by Oxford University and the Cambridge Union Society.

From within the walls of Davenport Dining Hall, students were enlightened as the University of La Verne debate team argued on the motion "That this house would abolish the Electoral College" on Thursday, Nov. 30.

In an event that will magnetize some of the best debating teams in the world, the intervarsity debate tournaments, which are to be held at Oxford University and Cambridge University Nov. 10-18. It provides the University of La Verne's debate team its first international competition of the year.

In an exemplary premiere performance, the University of La Verne Speech and Debate Team traveled to San Diego State University on Oct. 14-16 to compete in the Aztec Invitational. In continuing with tradition, the team proved their excellence by capturing several top honors.
