Guns should not be normalized

The gun debate continues to grow louder. Guns are now popping up in even more places they should not be, such as churches, children’s books and pockets disguised as cell phones.

Guns have no place on campus

On Aug. 1, 1966, an engineering student at the University of Texas at Austin went up to the observation deck on campus and went on a 96-minute shooting rampage, killing 17 people and wounding 31. This was the deadliest shooting rampage on a college campus in the United States until the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007.

The University of La Verne's firearm policy was recently rewritten by John Lentz, director of campus safety and transportation, to update and modify a policy written in 1995.

Hypocrisy surrounds retail ban

It looks as if Wal Mart has done it again. In yet another attempt to preserve their family-friendly image, the discount chain has decided to display a retaliation of wounded pride by refusing to sell Sheryl Crow's new self-titled CD because of a lyric indicating that Wal Mart sells guns to children.
