The softball team swept its doubleheader conference opener against Cal Lutheran on Monday at Wheeler Park with scores of 3-2 and 6-4.

So far, four men from the University of La Verne track and field team have qualified. Next week, they will challenge approximately 670 athletes in the Chicago area. Everyone there will be gunning for the same honor: to become a national champion.

The 1998 University of La Verne women's volleyball team wants to take the next step -- win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship and compete on the national level.

In the first ever meeting between the University of La Verne and Howard Payne University, the Yellowjackets (2-1) used five turnovers, four interceptions and one fumble to edge the Leopards (1-2), 21-18.
