The lights dimmed, the applause came to a slow stop and the scene crew set up a brick wall dividing the stage. Thus began an unexpected tale of romance as “The Romancers,” a play directed by theater arts major Zachary Green began Wednesday night in Dailey Theatre.

The classic musical “Three Penny Opera,” script by Bertolt Brecht and music by Kurt Weil, has been updated and set in modern day Los Angeles Harbor by the University of La Verne’s theater department.

With a new coach the swimming and diving team looks to be a top contender in SCIAC despite having one of the smallest teams in the conference.

Six divers competed in the Southern California Intercolleg­iate Athletic Conference diving preliminaries last Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer, with three qualifying for the final meet.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished the season against Occidental on Saturday, at the La Verne Aquatics Center.
