Gearing up for its 2009 season, the University of La Verne baseball team played its annual alumni game, Saturday at Upland Memorial Park. In addition to the game, a charity event was being held benefiting the James and Theresa Ortega Children Memorial Fund.

With regards to Julie Kim’s article on May 7 titled, “Annual athlete turnover a trend in ULV sports,” the reaction was somewhat disappointing in that it did not tell the entire story.

The University of La Verne baseball team spent its spring break in Texas, earning a victory over nationally-ranked Trinity University and splitting a doubleheader against NAIA foe Texas Wesleyan but dropping their last game to the University of Dallas.

In one of the biggest upsets of the season, the University of La Verne baseball team took care of reigning Division III national champion Chapman University, 4-1, Saturday evening at Hart Park to avenge the 6-2 loss to the Panthers the previous day at Ben Hines Field.

After losing its first two games of the California Classic held at Ben Hines Field last weekend, the University of La Verne baseball team regained its composure and won its last two games.
