As I was scrolling through Twitter Sunday morning, past tweets about the NBA Finals and Jose Bautista and Rougned Odor’s brawl, I saw a tweet about KTLA.
After two terrible seasons with Byron Scott, it was only time for Laker fans to retaliate and see him get fired. Lucky for them, he did. But adding to the sweetness of this was the hiring of Luke Walton as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers organization.
Sports knowledge and its history are not learned in a day or in a week, or even a month for that matter. Fortunately for me, I grew up with sports and each day and I learned something new and as I am continuously learning as I write even more. Probably this baseball and softball season, after how many times I’ve written about it, I learned what the shift is, line drives and how to properly say the type of out – ground outs, pop ups and fly outs. I used to just call them outs.
A 20-year story that has been built with memories – the good and the bad – has finally come to an end. The last chapter of this story ended Wednesday on “Mamba Day” at Staples Center as Laker great Kobe Bryant waved goodbye to the sold out crowd and concluded with the words, “Mamba out.”
It is many sports fans’ favorite time of the year – baseball season has finally returned. After a long winter, it is time to reignite rivalries and bring out the memes of trash talking. Spring training wins and performances built up the hype toward the regular season, and the words “play ball” will be said again.
