With its first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet tomorrow at Caltech, the University of La Verne cross country team prepared with the UC Irvine (UCI) Invitational last Saturday.
A good recruiting effort by Head Cross Country Coach Pat Widolff has helped him assemble the largest group of runners in his tenure at La Verne. A total of 21 runners will be looking to improve on the fifth place finishes by both the men’s and women’s teams last year.
Many athletes dream of the day when their team is in the position to win a championship. For the La Verne softball team, the dream of being in such a position became reality last Saturday.
Freshmen Sharnae Lancaster’s stellar pitching has become as routine for the women’s softball team as their hand-jive routine prior to each inning. Lancaster pitched her 17th and 18th games of the season last Friday, helping the Leos sweep Whittier College, 3-1 and 9-4 and improve their record to 15-3 overall and 12-2 in SCIAC.
