Winning three games in a row against the same team is not easy, but the University La Verne's baseball team made it seem so last weekend against the Whittier Poets.

Fighting for a playoff berth, the University of La Verne Leopards and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags knew they were going to have a battle on their hands before entering the showdown series of the season. The Stags sat comfortably in the driver’s seat going into Saturday’s doubleheader after picking up an 8-6 win over the Leopards on Friday.

The last two victories for the University of La Verne’s baseball team should be a highlight for its record, but its 5-3 loss to Occidental on Saturday seems to overshadow their success.

Bad things often come with good. The national champion La Verne Leopards baseball team, had their 12 game winning streak snapped, but finished in third place at the California Invitational Tournament last weekend.

Slaughtering its opponents seems to be what the University of La Verne baseball team does best these days. The Leopards swept the University of Redlands in Saturday’s doubleheader, 3-2 and 10-1.

Extending its SCIAC winning streak to six, the University of La Verne baseball team swept the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in a doubleheader, 11-2 and 12-3, on Saturday. Going into the game with a 10-1 win against Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, La Verne continued its momentum throughout the series.
