In the first ever meeting between the University of La Verne and Howard Payne University, the Yellowjackets (2-1) used five turnovers, four interceptions and one fumble to edge the Leopards (1-2), 21-18.

Defeated in its season opener two weeks ago by the Whittier Poets, the University of La Verne football team took on Occidental Saturday night and slayed the Tigers 41-14.

With seven rookie assistant coaches, a returning defensive coordinator and a head coach starting his third year, the University of La Verne football team also returns 11 starters from its 7-2 1996 squad.

All good things must come to an end. That may be true for somethings but not for the University of La Verne track team, who has had continued success throughout their season and brought home more than enough wins.

The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams continued to add athletes for nationals at the Occidental Invitation, but they must wait until Sunday to learn the results of the athletes, who are on a provisional list for nationals.

The University of La Verne's men and women's track teams participated at the Steve Scott Invitational last Saturday at Cal State University Long Beach.
