With the recent resignation of legendary head football coach Lou Holtz from Notre Dame, an important question is raised among sports enthusiasts: Is an era of football coaches dedicated to teaching players over?

With the regular season over, the Leopard football team has turned its attention to Minnesota, but the achievements of La Verne before the championships are, in a word, memorable.

In Rocky Balboa’s first fight, all he wanted to do was prove that he could go the distance with the champ. Last year the University of La Verne football team won the SCIAC title outright for the first time in school history, proving they too could go the distance.

Besides the battle for Homecoming Queen, there will be another battle in Ortmayer Stadium tomorrow. While Homecoming booths are coming down, the University of La Verne football team will be battling the University of Redlands at its 1 p.m. Homecoming game.

It is an old saying that “defense wins championships,” and the rest of the SCIAC is learning that the University of La Verne has a dominant one.

With the 1994 football season approaching, the University of La Verne football team has reloaded and is ready to make another run for the conference championship.
