After a close 12-11 victory over Pacific University of Oregon on March 18, the University of La Verne baseball team has fallen upon hard times, and has managed only one win in its last six games.

At the end of an exhausting and tough weekend of baseball that consisted of four games, 38 innings, and five teams, the University of La Verne baseball team managed to win one game in the tournament, over Pacific University. Then on Monday, ULV defeated Linfield College.

Registering its second win against an East Coast opponent in as many meetings, the University of La Verne baseball team beat both William Patterson University, 4-3 on Wednesday, and the Montclair State Red Hawks, the 1998 Division III runners-up, 5-4, on March 9. The wins improved ULV's overall record to 12-3.

After losing the first two games of the series against Cal Lutheran, the University of La Verne baseball team could have rolled over and sealed its fate in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).

With two men on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Univeristy of La Verne was behind one run and junior Mike Guzman had the game in his hands with a full count.

It has been said that the key to a good offense is a good defense. But for the University of La Verne baseball team, the success it has come by is due to its offensive force.
