For the first time in two years, the University of La Verne men’s tennis team had a conference victory. It defeated Whittier College, 4-3, at the Nancy Blickenstaff Tennis Pavilion last Tuesday.

The University of La Verne men’s tennis team dropped to 1-8 on the season, as it lost back-to-back matches to Occidental College and Caltech last weekend.
The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Finals were the end of a rough and disappointing season, but for some players on the men’s tennis team, “It was a learning experience.”
The skies last Friday seemed to be as grey as the end results for the University of La Verne men’s tennis team. The Leopards played host to the visiting Caltech team and once again found themselves on the short end of the winning stick (5-2).
Each year the University of La Verne inducts past athletes and faculty that have stood out into the University’s Hall of Fame. This year, six new members were added to its long list.
Although the inexperienced La Verne men’s tennis team has not won a single match thus far, they still manage to have a high team morale.
The University of La Verne has a men’s tennis team that is filled with hopes for the 1998 season, but on Feb. 13 those hopes were crushed for a day when Claremont-Mudd-Scripps came to La Verne and swept the Leopards, 7-0.
High hopes and expectations were not met on Friday as the University of La Verne men’s tennis team’s match was cancelled due to rain. Friday’s match in Pasadena against Caltech was to serve as an opener for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
