Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich spoke about leadership during a time of change last week before a crowd of about 600 students and community members at Scripps College’s Garrison Theater in Claremont.

Our nation went to the polls two weeks ago to cast its votes in America's midterm elections. I was at school all day, but was able to rush home and cast my ballot, making it to the polling place 15 minutes before it closed.

Opening with a one-liner and an update on scandal in Washington, former presidential press secretary Marlin Fitzwater sent roars of laughter through the formal ensemble of guests at the first annual President’s Dinner at the Ontario Airport Marriott on Jan. 20.

As a newcomer to Newt Gingrich’s congressional district, I must take exception to Steven Benjamin’s letter, in which he asserted, “...informed, open-minded voters are not known to populate his district.”

Good God! What has the contemporary educated mind come to that the most passionate things which it emits range around valentines and the “Jerry Springer Show?” I lift a Campus Times newspaper in hopes of reading the thoughts of our own college’s elite only to feast my eyes upon an explanation of hippopotamus snouts and “Sesame Street” as vital experiences to be shared by this student body. Even so, were this as little as our glorious paper had to offer, it might not even be worth commenting on.
