Allegations of sexual harassment and drinking on the job forced Norm Venables into a six-month silence that began on Dec. 19, 1995, when Venables was fired as director of dining services, and given 15 minutes to leave the University of La Verne campus, instructed never to return.
A parade of nations occupied the University Mall as the Fifth Annual International Celebration occurred Tuesday. Consisting of booths, food and a multi-cultural talent show, it showcased the various cultural backgrounds of La Verne’s international students.
It was a clear, warm October morning in Georgia back in 1942 when Bennie Jones said goodbye to his mother for the last time. Jones was being drafted into the Army and was uncertain about ever coming back home. Fifty-two years later, Jones is once again about to say goodbye to another group of people.
