I would like to commend the Campus Times for its excellent coverage of the lectures here on campus of Ring Festival La Verne, the University’s participation in the Los Angeles celebration of the arts centered around Los Angeles Opera’s production of Richard Wagner’s “The Ring of the Nibelungen.”
Professor of Music Kathleen Lamkin lectured on “Drama in Wagner’s ‘Ring:’ Music Propels the Action,” the last of the "Ring" lecture series, for 30 students and faculty members.
On Monday night about 25 La Verne students, faculty and staff filled the Campus Center Ballroom to see David Werner’s presentation, “My Precious Illusion: Power in Wagner and Tolkien.”
Al Clark, associate vice president of Academic Affairs, handled a string of technical difficulties to successfully deliver his lecture, “German Nationalism and the Rise of ‘The Ring’,” on Feb. 18.
