Led by sophomore Paul Gomez, the University of La Verne's golf team defeated Whittier College by shooting 326 to Whittier's 385 at the course of Friendly Hills in Whittier on Tuesday.
Following up a week of good performances, the University of La Verne golf team travelled to Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course in San Diego last Friday and Saturday to compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championships.
The University of La Verne golf team is once again off to a great start in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play after defeating Caltech last Friday and Chapman on Wednesday at Sierra La Verne Country Club.
On its way to a championship type season the University of La Verne golf team struck gold last Saturday coming in second place in the college division at the Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championships (SCIGC) at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course in San Diego with an overall score of 638 strokes.
The course the golf team plays on may look a little different from what it looked like before this season. High winds in January resulted in the loss of more than 250 trees on the Sierra La Verne course.
