La Verne Magazine receives SPJ award

The spring 1997 issue of La Verne Magazine, entitled "The Latino Community in La Verne: Struggles, Progress and Success," received second place for General Excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), in the western region of the United States.

Communications Dept. earns honors at CIPA

The University of La Verne Communications Department was recently awarded at the 49th annual California Intercollegiate Press Association (CIPA) awards, held April 17-19. The event was hosted by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Students honored for academics

Every year, each academic department on campus recognizes the top students in its department in the annual Academic Awards night. Tuesday, the University hosted those students and their families in Founders Auditorium for the ceremony.

Publications earn national honors

The Campus Times and La Verne Magazine each enjoyed its best performance ever in the prestigious Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Gold Circle Awards, announced recently in New York City. The two publications won a total of 10 Gold Circle Awards in a nation-wide journalism competition sponsored by Columbia University and College Media Advisers, Inc.

Times sweeps contest

The Campus Times won the Sweepstakes award at the 48th annual California Intercollegiate Press Association (CIPA) convention last weekend, earning the paper the distinction of being the best weekly college newspaper in the state.

New editors appointed for spring

The Communications Department has announced its student leaders for the Campus Times and the La Verne Magazine.
