When people ask me what I am, I say I’m Mexican. Then I qualify the statement.

I recently gave up MySpace for Lent. I recently got sucked into the iPod scene thanks to my new nano. I just read an article in the New York Times about a woman who shopped for her sperm donor on the Internet and is now happily pregnant without the need of a relationship or husband. What do these three things have in common?

Six three-pointers in four minutes. This past weekend I attended my first pro basketball game, Clippers vs. Lakers at the Staples Center. It was exciting just to be there. It was my first time at the Staples Center, and although our seats were pretty high, we saw all the action on the brightly-lit court.

I hate writing columns, and I love to be challenged. Thus, I requested this position as arts editor this semester, my final semester at ULV.

The death penalty is a hot topic. And now, with Stanley “Tookie” Williams scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Dec. 13, this topic is hot on my mind.

The arts hold a special place in education. While math teaches problem solving and history teaches the importance of the past, the arts teach us about being human and allow us to celebrate and reflect on our accomplishments and sorrows as a human race. The arts give us the tools to express our life stories to each other.
