Campus and community arts events for the week of May 17, 1996.

It is described by Jane Dibbell, associate professor of theatre arts and producer of "Approaching Simone," as provoking. Its director, Steve Kent, part-time professor of theatre arts, calls the play "emotional, funny and gripping," while Stacey Williams, a junior who has the role of Josephine Baker, declares it to be "extraordinary."

Michael Keck, actor, composer and publisher, came to the University of La Verne this week to conduct workshops and allow students to see him rehearse for “Voices in the Rain,” his solo performance set to debut at the Illusion Theatre in Minneapolis, Minn., this fall, prior to a national tour.

Offering an opportunity for people to explore the world of acting, the Theatre Department is hosting free workshops for all students this month.

To Alice Gasparian, actress and University of La Verne alumna, wearing a corset and boxes on her hips is just a part of the job—her night job, that is. Theater actress by night and Universal Studios dresser by day, Gasparian never leaves the acting realm she has loved her entire life.

Starting next semester, students will have the opportunity to enroll in three theater courses taught by Steve Kent, who will replace Dr. David Flaten, professor of theatre arts, who will be on sabbatical.
