Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

We are grateful for your regular and well-researched coverage of events in the Irene Carlson Gallery of Photography. The gallery is an experiment in openness. We promote a sort of serendipitous gallery experience.

As you know, that openness has been sorely tested. The most recent theft is hard to bear; we still have not seen the return of the photograph. We are embarrassed and our reputation is tarnished, to say the least.

Nevertheless, we have been heartened by an outpouring of sympathy, a host of suggestions for improving security and lots of new visitors. It seems, to our delight, the gallery gains respect and broader interest almost daily. Perhaps, in the end, that’s what it’s all about; to offer everyone a chance to realize the value of the artists’ efforts to pull us together.
