I agree the punishment that was handed to Phi Delta Theta was pretty harsh, however they unfortunately can thank themselves for where they are at now [“So, the Phi Delts messed up,” Sept. 27]. The thing is that the Phi Delts aren’t on suspension for what happened during the night of their rush event (technically they announced that the event was over). They are on punishment because, thanks to their weak leadership, they got caught up in telling lies, not to mention having their prospective pledges and the owners of the house where the drama went down lie on their behalf as well. I personally told a couple of the Phi Delts’ “leaders” that we would support their claimed innocence, and even convinced IFC to do the same. So when they came out with the truth we all felt like we had been slapped in the face, and that they deserved whatever came upon them.
Hopefully the remaining members can see how negatively this has effected our Greek System, which already doesn’t have the greatest reputation. The whole reason Chi Delta Omicron was formed was so we can give the students another choice, and thanks to the decision of some of Phi Delta Theta’s “leaders,” the students are left with only one national fraternity, and a developing local organization.

Have you ever considered facts important in your writing or are they just to be ignored to make a point [“Organic farming a natural alternative,” Sept. 27]? It would be nice if we could all have food that was grown organically with no pesticides, but who makes the decision as to who eats? The food supply in the United States would drop by 30 to 50 percent without fertilizer used on farms and the pesticides are also used to protect our food supply. The organic farming is only for the “rich” who can afford the luxury of having it, not for the masses.
In addition the term “organically grown” is a total misnomer, plants can only take in to their system, inorganic chemicals. Please in the future, consider facts before you publish.
