For most art venues the paintings are what draw in the people, but for the Loft Beats Art Shows the sound of DJs and local musicians enhances the art experience.
Located up a long stairway of squeaky brown steps, down a dimly lighted hallway, in the Pomona Arts Colony, art enthusiast can find a loft full of affordable art by talented artist, and hear the beats of local DJs.
On Saturday, Loft Beats hosted a green show – an art show that represents things that are the color green.
The show took viewers on a visual experience designed to enhance the meaning of the color green.
One art display that stood out for Pomona resident Tasha Madrid was a painting of a bench on a brick pathway, in the middle of a park full of green grass and trees.
“The park painting was amazing,” Madrid said. “It really had the effect of putting you right in the middle of the painting, as if you were sitting on the bench.”
“I’d never heard of Loft Beats before, and I have been to the art walk more than a few times,” said West Covina resident Lisa Castro. “Green is my favorite color, and the artist did a good job depicting the color green,” Castro said.
The show featured special guest DJ Kronic, who played throughout the whole show, helping viewers to experience the meaning of green.
“I love art and music,” said Stephanie Giles of El Monte. “They are my escape from the world, and being able to experience the both of them in one show is great.”
Although many at the Loft Beats art show thought the color green was well represented, a few felt that the art was just not green enough.
“The music tonight was great,” Tare Quiones of La Puente said. “DJ Kronic did a killer job spinning, but the art lacked in green. A lot of paintings did not have the color green at all, and some only had a little bit of green in it, like paintings of the ocean… I really did not get the green experience they were going for.”
Loft Beats is located in downtown Pomona’s Art Colony 262 W Second Street loft 4, and is open the second Saturday of every month from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
