More than 100 students gathered March 14 in the Campus Center for the Grand Slam Classic, an event hosted by the Campus Activities Board to build excitement for the Leopards’ baseball game later that afternoon.
Attendees received free jerseys, enjoyed Costco pizza, played lawn games and created custom signs to cheer on the team. The event was designed to promote school spirit ahead of the game. Students were encouraged to wear their jerseys and bring the signs they made to the game.
The limited-edition ULV jerseys, available in pink and green, were popular.
“The shirts were gone in the first 30 minutes,” Bella Dominguez, junior business administration major, said.
The line for the pizza and jersey giveaway wrapped around the Campus Center lobby.
The event also featured interactive lawn games, including a putting game, jumbo cup pong and a flag-making station where students could design custom signs to show their school spirit at the baseball game. The sign-making station was particularly popular, with students using cute stickers, markers, and colorful decorations to personalize their flags.
Some of the sticker designs included baseball bats, ULV Leopard mascots, motivational phrases and colorful letters to make each flag unique. Students could also use various colored markers for their creations.
The jerseys were neatly displayed on one table, with CAB members assisting students in picking their preferred color and size.
The combination of food, interactive activities, and school spirit made the Grand Slam Classic a hit for sports fans and more.
