Though living in the 1990s, many people find solace in the past. Comedian and musician Jim Gallucci’s music is influenced from the themes of the ’60s and ’70s.
He is a self-taught musician who bought his own guitar at age 12. As a child, Gallucci describes himself as being fascinated with rock-n-roll.
His later life was spent traveling the country as a stand-up comic, opening for acts such as Sam Kinison. He gave up traveling in 1994 and decided to focus on his musical career.
Gallucci and his band Flower Power, which includes Hai Muradian, Bob Hughes, Marty Echito, Collie Coburn, Pat Naish, Rob Haerr and Bill Putnam, will be performing in Dailey Theatre on Friday, May 16, at 8 p.m. There will be a special comedy guest, Alex Diroe, and a special musical guest, Ray De La Paz, with the event being hosted by Steven Barag.
In 1994, Gallucci and Flower Power performed a sold out show in Founders Auditorium and got a good response from the community.
“It is about having a good time with the kind of music that is really American right now, like going back to the basics with drums, etc. People are tired of synthesizers,” said Gallucci.
Gallucci believes that this show in Dailey will be more intimate because of the structure of the building as well as the psychedelic lighting that is being added to the already available lighting. Mark Pietrzak, theater technical director, is going to be helping them with the lights.
