This summer a new bubble tea and dessert destination set up shop in La Verne causing and satisfying cravings for people of all ages. 

Whether it is a warm and sunny day or a bleak chilly evening in La Verne, the time is always right for a boba drink. With so many great options for boba shops close to the University of La Verne campus, students do not need to go far to find delicious drinks. 

Cindy Vallejo, associate director of student life, and Julienna Duran, student organizations coordinator and senior criminology major, hand out free boba, snacks and t-shirts to sophomore psychology major Kimberly Benitez, freshman sociology major Nicolette Castillo and freshman criminology Jocel Sanchez on Wednesday in the University Quad.

Though it is located in Upland, students of the University of La Verne find themselves longing for one of the many flavored tea options from the trendy boba cafe Tpumps.

Paula Zepeda hands out boba during the CAB sponsored event “Make Your Own Boba” in Sneaky Park on Wednesday. Boba is a sweet drink mix of chai tea, milk and tapioca balls. The event was a hit, selling out in less than 50 minutes.

In most large cities like Pasadena and Los Angeles, Asian oriented shops can be seen competing alongside the kings of coffee houses. But unlike Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, the people choose to wait in long lines for something other than aromatic coffee blends. Known as "bubble tea" or "boba" to its Taiwanese creators, this odd looking concoction is served in a drink flavor of your choice, and is sipped and chewed simultaneously from a straw hole three-quarters of an inch wide.
