The debate team made the record books last weekend in British Columbia as captains Carl Decker and Sam French won their first international championship; the first in University of La Verne history.
The La Verne Debate team is now ranked second in the nation after placing second in the final round of the National US Open at Claremont McKenna College Sunday. Team A, consisting of seniors Sam French and Carl Decker, brought home the award for the team.
The debate team celebrated the University’s “One Book, One University” program in the ACB Sept. 12, showcasing an open debate regarding the idea that humans are not responsible for global warming.
Yale University proved victorious at this year’s United States Universities British Parliamentary National Debate Championship hosted by the University of La Verne April 12-14.
The debate team traveled out of state for the first time this semester representing the University of La Verne in the last two tournaments, in Hawaii and Seattle, receiving national recognition.
Five members of the University of La Verne’s decorated debate team are awaiting the results of a University judicial review after they were pulled over last Thursday for speeding, and a student driver was charged with driving under the influence while on the way to a debate tournament at UC Davis.
