The proposed 2015-16 state budget includes an 11 percent cut in Cal Grants, which translates to nearly $1,000 less state money for each new student here.

Tuition to rise 4.9 percent
Associated Students of the University of La Verne Senator Cameron Mendez stood, microphone in hand, asking students to approach an ASULV information booth Feb. 5 urging them to learn more about the 4.9 percent increase in tuition for the 2015-2016 school year.
Debt is below U.S. average
The average federal student loan debt at the University of La Verne for 2013 is about $22,000, said Diane Anchundia, director of financial aid.
