It was the biggest night of the year for television – the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by “Saturday Night Live’s” Colin Jost and Michael Che on Monday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
On Sept. 17, the 69th Emmy Awards celebrated the talent of an array of entertainers in television. Like any other large scale award show, the Emmys try to appear progressive every year. Unfortunately this is displayed by exemplifying the power of the white hands it is in.
Viola Davis became the first black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for her performance in “How To Get Away With Murder” this past Sunday, but it should not have taken this long for a woman of color to have won this prestigious award.
