Growing up, I spent my entire life knowing only one of my grandparents from both sides of my family. My grandmother, Wanda, is the best grandmother I could ever ask for as she has taken care of me like she was my mother. But a part of me always wanted to know more. This year has been full of surprises, and luckily I had the pleasure of meeting my grandfather for the first time ever.

My most treasured possession is an old, ratty t-shirt. It is faded white and has a tiny hole on the shoulder.

I can’t tell you how many times I heard this growing up – “When you get older you will be best friends.”

It is one of the best times of the year. That’s right; the holidays are here. Can you believe how fast the school year has gone by? We are already headed into the month of December.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This holiday is the perfect opportunity to recognize the people and everything that you are thankful for. We should always think about what we are thankful for, but Thanksgiving is the best time to let others know.

Seeing the door open to my room is not the same as it was before. I used to be able to expect my little sister to walk in and start talking to me about anything on her mind.
