This letter is in regard to the recent problem involving Davenport Dining Hall ["Fire damages move services to Spot," Oct. 9]. Because of the recent fire damage to the building, the on-campus students were forced to deal with an inescapable dilemma. Eating in the Student Center was an unpleasant solution to this problem.

Davenport Dining Hall had its grand re-opening Monday, Nov. 2 serving lunch to the University community. It was the first meal in the dining hall in over a month.

Reconstruction of Davenport Dining Hall is under progress due to last Friday's fire. The University has contracted J.A. Bradley Construction & Restoration, to handle reparation of the damages.

A fire broke out in the office of Frank Crescenzo, executive chef, in Davenport Dining Hall in the late evening hours of Oct. 2. It will now cost the University of La Verne between $60,000 and $70,000 to repair the damages.

Response to last Friday night's fire in Davenport Dining Hall was "excellent," said John Lentz, director of campus safety and transportation.

After La Verne Fire Department firefighters determined that Davenport Dining Hall's blaze was under control, fire officials entered the facility to investigate the extent of damages. In doing so, it was evident that the concentration of the blaze was at the office of Frank Crescenzo, executive chef for Davenport.
