Upon publication of this story, summer will be a short 40 days away. And just as Country Time Lemonade commercials act as a bell in my head – forever ringing in bright blue skies and bathing suits – new album releases, upcoming blockbusters, concert tours and various forms of local entertainment serve as other telltale signs and flags of encouragement that vacation is on its way.

After the success of the original “XXX,” it seemed natural to release a sequel. Fortunately, Vin Diesel does not play the title character in “XXX: State of the Union.” Unfortunately, Ice Cube does.

In the first four months of 2003, the best music on the new releases rack has been anything but new. Realizing that they don't have a whole lot of exciting new sounds to force-feed us, major labels are digging through their back catalogues and reissuing like crazy.

Thank God it is Friday. Again. "Next Friday," that is. Rap star/actor Ice Cube stars as Craig in the sequel to the 1995 hit comedy "Friday," and again a lot is about to go down between Thursday night and Saturday morning.
