Closing out its 2004 campaign in fine fashion, the University of La Verne football team led from start to finish, easily dominating Whittier College, 41-21, at Newman Field in Whittier.
In a battle of winless teams trying to fight their way out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference cellar, Whittier College used a five-play, 93-yard drive with 2:35 remaining for the winning score to hand the Leopards their seventh consecutive loss, 21-14, Saturday afternoon at Ortmayer Stadium.
Looking for their first victory of the year, the Leopards played with all their hearts but could not overcome 24 first-half points by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as well as a crucial non-score late in the game en route to their fourth straight loss, 31-17, Saturday afternoon at Ortmayer Stadium.
