For the first time in its short history, the University of La Verne women’s water polo team earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Water Polo Championship. Kristen McKown, a red shirt junior utility, provided the team with the leadership it needed.

After its victory over Whittier in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, the University of La Verne women’s water polo team backed up their invitation to the National Division III Collegiate Championships with a strong fifth place finish at Haldeman Pool, May 6-8 in Claremont.

Making great strides to become one of the top teams in all of Division III, the women’s water polo team finished fourth at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships winning one of three games April 29 through May 1 at Haldeman Pool in Claremont.

In the biggest meet of the year, both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their 2004-2005 campaigns with strong performances.

The University of La Verne men’s swim team placed sixth and the women finished 10th in the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Winter Invitational on Dec. 3 and 4 in Claremont.

The women’s water polo team began its season with a 5-3 loss to the much more experienced team from Cal State Hayward Saturday at the La Verne Aquatic Center.
