We need real-time safety alerts

Last Monday, Campus Safety alerted the entire University of La Verne community via a vague email about a lockdown affecting several buildings, students and employees – two hours after the lockdown had ended and the dangerous situation had been resolved.

Several buildings on the University of La Verne campus were on lockdown for less than a half-hour during the morning of Feb. 11, though the full campus community was only alerted to this by a brief email message two hours after the dangerous situation was resolved.

On March 15, three police cars arrived at Sneaky Park after a new member presentation from historically black sorority Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Shortly before, music was playing and people were mingling. Two Campus Safety officers pulled up soon after, reporting that the police were responding to a noise complaint.
