Long before Tiger Woods was roaming the greens on the PGA Tour, the La Verne golf team was making a name for itself at the Sierra La Verne Country Club.
Following up a week of good performances, the University of La Verne golf team travelled to Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course in San Diego last Friday and Saturday to compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championships.
After three rounds at the Division III National Golf Championships, junior Mark Watson, a member of the University of La Verne golf team, is in 37th place.
On its way to a championship type season the University of La Verne golf team struck gold last Saturday coming in second place in the college division at the Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championships (SCIGC) at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course in San Diego with an overall score of 638 strokes.
The course the golf team plays on may look a little different from what it looked like before this season. High winds in January resulted in the loss of more than 250 trees on the Sierra La Verne course.
