Choir sings spirituals in ‘Voice of the People’

Thursday night the University of La Verne chorale and chamber singers held its first concert of this year’s series. It was an informal night of folk music from around the world, including Chinese, Japanese, English, Canadian, Australian and African-American spiritual songs. The performances included upbeat music and mellow arrangements, providing a dynamic range that kept the crowd’s interest.

Jazz players hit all the right notes

The University of La Verne Jazz Ensemble treated the campus to a great performance on Tuesday. The concert was arranged by J. Michael O’Neal, the Jazz Ensemble director and lead on the keyboard.

There is a new home-specialty store in town that is sweet to the senses – a welcome addition to this downtown’s low-key lineup.
