Revenge porn, also known as non-consensual pornography, is the sharing of private, sexual material of another person without their consent. Anyone can be the victim of revenge porn, but most recently Rep. Katie Hill, D-Cal., resigned after private, explicit photos of her were leaked, according to the Associated Press.

More than two dozen female Marines were violated and degraded by their fellow servicemen who posted nude photos of them accompanied by their names, rank and military station in early March.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a new bill into law on Oct. 1 that would criminalize “revenge porn” – the distribution of online sexual images of an ex-lover or spouse to harass and humiliate them.
