Athletes hope to save Ben Hines Field

A student-led campaign to save Ben Hines Field began this week and has already met strong opposition from administration.

The baseball program held its First Pitch Banquet Dinner, on Tuesday in an effort to better acquaint the faculty, alumni, new baseball players and their families with one another before the baseball season starts.

Baseball heads to regionals

With the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title under its belt and a season filled with more ups than downs, the La Verne baseball team traveled to Abilene, Texas, this week to participate in the NCAA Division III West Regional Tournament.

Baseball crowned SCIAC champs

The University of La Verne baseball team not only swept a three game series against conference foe Pomona-Pitzer, but the Leopards clinched the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the 19th time in the University’s history.

Reaching first base on a fielder’s choice in the second inning, University of La Verne’s outfielder Brandon Mikkelson had one run and a hit in the second game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags on Saturday. The Leopards mauled the Stags at Ben Hines Field with a final score of 18-6, bringing them to a 22-14-1 current season record. ULV will host Pomona-Pitzer today. / photo by Courtney Droke

Baseball moves into second place

Sweeping a three-game series is always nice, but with one weekend remaining in their regular season, the La Verne baseball team propelled itself into second place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after sweeping last weekend’s series against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Baseball falls short against Tigers

With the fate of their season in sight, and three conference foes standing in their way, La Verne baseball team played Occidental last weekend, winning two of three.

In the eighth inning against Chapman, freshman Mark Larini was thrown out at second base. The Leopards lost to the Panthers, 2-4 in the second game on April 11 as part of the three-game weekend series. Leopards swept by Chapman in 3

The Leopards’ high-powered offense was never able to get off the ground as Chapman proved to be the more dominant team, winning all three games and extending their winning streak to 18 games last weekend.

Baseball takes two from Whittier

In what turned out to be a gloomy weekend, the La Verne baseball team shined last weekend playing their most important series of the season, winning two dramatic games against conference foe Whittier.

Baseball plays host to Cal Invite

While classes were out, parking lots were empty and students were scattered for spring break, Ben Hines Field was alive last weekend as the Leopards hosted the California Invitational.

In a pickle between third baseman Aaron Coopman and catcher Mike Moretti, Redlands Bulldog Jefre Johnson is tagged out at home plate in the first inning. La Verne went on to lose to Redlands in the first game, 5-4, but came back to trounce the Bulldogs in the second game, 16-5.
