Between hay bales and twinkling lights, the women of Phi Sigma Sigma saddled up for their second annual country night at Hanawalt House Wednesday.

It’s rare for Veronica Orozco not to run into someone she knows when walking to class. Her social life at the University of La Verne is similar to that of an up-and-coming celebrity walking a red carpet during award season; everywhere she goes somebody is up for a conversation. However, the sociable woman she is today is a far cry from the girl she was in high school, she said.

Phi Sigma Sigma sorority held its From Her Cowboy Boots to Her Phi Sig Roots event Oct. 1 at the Hanawalt House and featured a watermelon eating contest, games and good old southern styled hospitality.

Sigma Kappa sorority held its annual Rock painting and fundraiser on Monday designed to bring awareness to the dangers of hazing during National Hazing Prevention Week.

The women of Greek life came together last weekend to welcome potential new members as they began their journey through formal sorority recruitment.

It is that time of year on campus – that time when men and women are wearing those lovely sweaters and jackets with the sown on letters representing their sorority or fraternity. The sorority and frat talk is even more predominate, with posters and giant letters around campus, trying to draw others in to join.
