When school let out and spring break began, students took part in an age-old tradition. Beginning with the Greeks and Romans, people have celebrated the arrival of spring.

With spring break fast approaching, the time has come when students dream of vacations going to a far-off, sun soaked beach.

The current situation with Mexico’s drug wars has caused the United States to put Mexico on its list of travel alerts, and is now causing many universities to put their own travel warnings to prevent many college students from going to Mexico on spring break.

As students put the books away and prepare to depart for fun-in-the-sun spring break destinations, they should take heed of serious warnings about dangers lurking south of the border.

The sun shining brightly, sand curled in between your toes, the cool blue ocean crashing up against the shore and a waiter bringing you a piña colada with a cherry and pink umbrella in it (non-alcoholic of course).

Over spring break I tried to think of something great to write about in my next column.
