With the commencement of the 1998 spring semester only a few months ahead, the University of La Verne's men's volleyball team has begun preparing for a new and competitive season.

With the closing of Third Street in front of Founders Hall, Illumination took place Monday night. Each prince and princess, dressed at their best, was escorted by a friend or family member down the red carpet while many La Verne students cheered for their favorite candidate.

Being the last home game for the University of La Verne men's volleyball team, the players were hoping for a win against San Diego State University. Unfortunately they could not pull it off and lost three out of four matches, 12-15, 15-12, 15-8, 15-2.

With the 13th toughest collegiate schedule in the nation this year, the University of La Verne men's volleyball team is out to prove one thing: it wants to be the first team to win the newly instated National Small Colleges Championship Division I tournament, and it has a reasonable shot at it.
