Joanna Vergoth boarded a plane from New York to Kentucky to meet with a survivor of female genital mutilation and promote legislation to make the practice of genital mutilation illegal on May 6.

Rep. Bobby Franklin (R-Ga) proposed an anti-abortion bill that would make miscarriages a felony if the mother cannot prove there was no “human involvement.” The legislation excludes those miscarriages that can be proven accidental and due to the woman’s bodily functions. Anyone who cannot prove their miscarriage was an act of nature could face the death penalty or life behind bars.

March is Women’s History Month, the time to celebrate the achievements of women who have paved the way for equality, freedom and justice for equal rights.

Last Wednesday was a sad day for the rights of women. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court voted to uphold the “partial birth abortion” ban act, and as a result, American women have lost some of their freedom.

The University of La Verne's Health Center now offers an informational class meant to educate students on topics such as birth control methods, types of sexually and non-sexually transmitted infections and breast self-examinations.
