Dear Editor,
I’ll admit that while I was working on a lot of homework, I flipped on the TV and watched NBC’S “Average Joe,” one of the countless cheesy reality shows. But little did I expect that there would be a revelation from some of the individuals on the show. On the show is Adam, the Average Joe; a nice goofy guy who has to choose among a number of women who stay with him for the chance of marriage. There’s a non-reality part. Although Adam had made a conscious choice to say goodbye to the bikini models who arrived (another unreality part) he may have made a mistake. When the time came to select some of the women off, one of the women Adam chooses was Brittany Ducker. It seems he chose this successful attractive smart woman because she was a single mom and she surprised him. I guess he was nice enough to recognize her trust and the risk she made at the end. Why this is a concern is because of what Brittany Ducker said in her classic reality-show cutaway discussions. The point she made was very engaging that with all that she has accomplished; getting her degrees, with a child, and probably having a couple of jobs, she has this stigma with guys because she has a kid attached to her. She also said Adam was probably shallow too. As I realize this valid “sad truth” as Brittany said, I thought how single moms are really miraculous and incredible to live with this stigma and do what they have to do. It must not be easy in today’s society. And I believe at some point in a guy’s life he will realize this, just as easy as I have, and give credit undoubtedly to single moms who do more than any can believe possible. And I can live with the fact that a reality show taught me something.
