Although Nancy Adams, president of the Associated Student Federation, appealed to Forum members to show up more frequently to Forum meetings, only seven out of 12 members were present March 11 at 12:07 p.m., when Adams called the meeting to order.
Two more members showed up late and a quorum was achieved to approve last week’s minutes.
Also, there were only two out six officers present at the last officers’ meeting, Nancy Adams and Marissa Espinoza. “The two of us had a great meeting,” said Adams.
Adams has been attempting to juggle the ASF meeting time to accommodate her members and boast meeting attendance.
ASF has a Judicial Affairs Committee that is charged with noting and penalizing members who do not fulfill their obligation to the student body, however it was delayed because it could not raise a quorum.
“The committee was not able to meet last week because Harold Braunstein, ASF vice president, had a baseball game,” said Adams. “Also other committee members had other engagements.”
On other business, Adams said that Stephen Morgan, president of the University of La Verne, inquired about student retention.
“He wants to know how many students will not come back because of the tuition increase,” said Adams. “We will use the town meeting on Wednesday [March 13, at 8 p.m. in La Fetra] to find out more what the students feel.”
“In September ’90 we had 838 undergraduate students; in spring ’91, we had 752,” said Teresa Edwards, student representative to the Board of Trustees. “Enrollment is dropping. We had only 15 new students and 30 transfers and [Dr.] Bill Cook [vice president of ULV] is concerned too.”
