The La Verne Police Department (LVPD) responded to a call made by Henry Negrette, campus security agent, on Monday regarding threatening phone calls made to Joanne Gonzalez, account manager for Marriott Services, the housekeeping service for the University of La Verne.
The calls were left on Gonzalez’s voice mail by a former housekeeping employee, whose name Gonzalez and LVPD refused to release. The employee was fired in August after being caught stealing from ULV Graphics by surveillance cameras.
“There had been incidences of theft, so we set up the cameras in hopes of catching the person responsible. He [the former employee] was caught on tape stealing from a desk. It was his own doing. I don’t see how he can blame me for it,” said Gonzalez.
She had been ignoring the phone calls, which began early in August shortly after the employee was fired, but when she returned to campus on Monday, the messages made threats to her life.
“I didn’t really pay attention to them until they started to get worse,” said Gonzalez.
She is pressing charges of harassment against the former employee. Detectives from LVPD are in the process of questioning the suspect, but have not made an arrest in the case.
