In my opinion, you are right on the mark with your March 10 editorial (“Smaller majors under siege”).
Smaller majors are under siege
The Action Task Force, the in-house body charged with auditing the University of La Verne’s efficiency has submitted all of its 34 recommendations, but some of those ideas – particularly those aimed at examining the necessity of smaller majors for the good of the University - have been causing quite a ruckus among concerned students and faculty members lately, despite President Stephen Morgan’s reassurances that our beloved - yet under populated - majors are not on the chopping block.
Panel recommends controversial cost cutters
Assessment and possible elimination of some of the school’s smaller majors, and guaranteed admission for legacy students are among the more than 15 recommendations made recently by a University committee charged with “finding” $8 million in the school's nearly maxed-out budget.
Budget cuts are approved
Recently, the Board of Trustees approved the Action Task Force’s recommendations and President Stephen Morgan’s complementary changes, and has taken the last steps in preparing them for implementation. The approved recommendations will be implemented by fall 2007.
