What a difference a year makes for the University of La Verne baseball team.

My photographer and I had just walked out of the ground floor of Miller Hall, heading toward Brandt Hall on assignment. Rather than using hypothetical situations of drug and alcohol use in the dorms, I wanted real accounts. I could have also used recollections of events, but for the sake of credibility and reality, students need the here and now of drug use and drinking in dorms.

The University of La Verne's football team, on the cusp of becoming an above .500 team could not break that mark Saturday as it faced a big and powerful Cal Lutheran team, falling to the Kingsmen 34-7.

In the first ever meeting between the University of La Verne and Howard Payne University, the Yellowjackets (2-1) used five turnovers, four interceptions and one fumble to edge the Leopards (1-2), 21-18.

The long season finally comes to a end as the University of La Verne Leopards closed the 1997 season by losing their last nine games.

Losing three straight games to the fifth ranked Division III Cal Lutheran Kingsmen was not the plan for the University of La Verne baseball team last weekend.
