In the 72-year history of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), only two teams have ever gone undefeated. The first was in 1954 when the Occidental College Tigers went 8-0. The second happened Tuesday when the University of La Verne Leopards completed an 18-0 sweep of the conference.
All the University of La Verne baseball team needs to do to end its season with an undefeated record in league competition is defeat the Caltech Beavers, something the Leopards have managed to do in the team's 45 previous confrontations.
The men's tennis team, supporting a 0-6 record, went into Tuesday's match against Caltech with nothing to lose. But it did just that, lowering its record to 0-7 and 0-5 in conference play.
