Several buildings on the University of La Verne campus were on lockdown for less than a half-hour during the morning of Feb. 11, though the full campus community was only alerted to this by a brief email message two hours after the dangerous situation was resolved.
The University of La Verne’s annual security report was sent to all students, faculty and staff late last month – with four reported cases of rape on the main campus in 2017.
The week after the Las Vegas shooting, Interim Campus Safety Director David Keetle sent a university-wide email with guidelines for what to do in an active shooter situation.
The three lead campus safety officers, Laura Avalos, Chris Lockwood, and Jerry Espinoza, are serving in as interim campus safety directors, in succession, with Avalos currently running the show – following James Miyashiro, who left in June to take a position at the University of San Diego.
