Every year, each academic department on campus recognizes the top students in its department in the annual Academic Awards night. Tuesday, the University hosted those students and their families in Founders Auditorium for the ceremony.

Through its California Theta chapter, Alpha Chi, the national honors society, inducted 68 students as new members Tuesday night in La Fetra Auditorium.

Taking a young and inexperienced team to the NCAA Regional Playoffs proved an invaluable experience for the No. 3 ranked University of La Verne women's volleyball team, making its 12th NCAA playoff appearance. Its stellar 18-11 season came to a close in a first round loss to the No. 2 ranked UC San Diego Tritons in three games.

Whittier College was the stage last Friday night, and the plot went as planned as the University of La Verne women's volleyball team exploded at the box office with a victory that ensured its playoff berth into the NCAA West Regionals.

The scene was set on Tuesday, with the the University of La Verne women's volleyball team squaring off against Chapman. The Leopards swept the Panthers, 15-4, 15-7, 15-11.

Playing four matches in one week is hard enough, but winning three out of the four games is what the University of La Verne women's volleyball team did last week, defeating Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer, and Claremont, but falling to Cal Lutheran who is 9-0.
